Step by Step Guide in Setting up a Saltwater Aquarium

Step by Step Guide in Setting up a Saltwater Aquarium You will need necessary equipments in setting up a saltwater aquarium such as:

  1. Aquarium Tank
  2. Saltwater –it is essential in maintaining in the fish and coral you are keeping
  3. Hydrometer and thermometer – particularly for saltwater
  4. Substrate – the floor of the aquarium e.g. sand or crushed coral
  5. Power-head – it will endow movement of water
  6. Protein-skimmer – it will help you in fight algae from forming and reproducing.
  7. Water heater – for maintaining the needed water  temperature  inside the tank
  8. Fish food – particularly in saltwater fish
  9. Scrubber – it will remove algae  from rocks and aquarium walls
  10. Filter and filter replacement – purifying the water from biological and chemical waste inside the tank
  11. Fish net
  12. Rubber gloves
  13. 5 – 10 gallons of water dirt-free water and used exclusively for aquarium water
  14. Sea salt mix
  15. Aquarium vacuum – it removes dirt particles  from water and substrate
  16. Quarantine tank – it is used to segregate fish with disease and new fish
  17. Saltwater test kit – it monitors the cycle of nitrogen in aquarium’s ecosystem

Step 1: Unsoiled Everything
It is necessary to unsoiled everything.  Put a teaspoon pure bleach and put it in a 5 gallon of water for cleansing purposes, you could use up to 10 gallons for the entire procedure of the tank.  Use a smooth cleaner to clean the sides of the tank; it will prevent scratches on the walls and surface of your aquarium. When cleaning the substrate, use a lot of clean water. Repeat this procedure in cleaning accessories that you wish to put inside the tank.
Step 2: Set up the filter
Make sure that you install the filter correctly to your saltwater aquarium because it is needed in keeping your aquarium free from dirt and waste. There are a different types of filter to choose from such as, a combination of chemical, biological and mechanical filters.
Step 3: Stuff with plants and substrate
When you are done cleaning your substrate, put it at the bottom of the tank along with water, the ratio should be about 1 pound of substrate for every gallon of water used. Use your substrate in anchoring firmly your aquarium plants you wished to place.

Step 4: Fill the tank with clean water
Mix some salt in a large container containing a non-chlorinated water and gauge the salt level on a hydrometer to assure and check its gravity level. It should be between 1.020 and 1.023. After doing this procedure, fill it in your tank and turn on the filtration system.
Step 5: Condition your water at the right temperature
Conditioning the water with the right temperature is very vital in setting up your saltwater aquarium.  Use heater and thermometer to condition the water until it reaches the right temperature. This will take 72 hours to complete the process. Afterwards, cycle the water permitting it to form the essential microorganisms that the tank bionetwork lacks. Endow water movement by installing the power-head .
Step 6: Put in the fish
When you are done with the procedures above, and you are sure that the chemistry of the water and the water is in the right temperature which is between 75 and 80 degrees, you can now put your fish inside the tank.

Step 7: Aquarium Maintenance
Part of maintaining your saltwater aquarium is to make sure that the power-head is at the steady level. You have to be certain that it is not too huge for the size of your tank. Use your protein-skimmer regularly to prevent the formation of algae, take off the dirt and support the water for its nitrogen cycle.
