Salt Aquarium

Saltwater aquarium is a trend nowadays.  The traditional fresh water aquarium has been replaced with the more complex and intricate saltwater fish aquarium.  Saltwater fish aquarium is the closest that you can get to the beauty and charm of underwater life.  Not everyone has the opportunity to see what is life underneath the ocean.  We are constantly fascinated by how wonderful it is to live in the most abundant place on earth, a rich marine environment.

As mentioned, saltwater fish aquarium is a complex thing to set up.  You need to be more careful in all aspects so you will be able enjoy the full benefits of it.  You may start by deciding on the size of your tank.  For a beginner, a larger tank is a better choice than a smaller tank because a larger tank is chemically more stable.  

Choosing the material for your saltwater is also important.  Aquariums are available in glass or acrylic material.  Acrylic are prone to scratches but is a good insulator.  In addition, acrylic made aquarium are stronger compared to those made from glass.  Glass, on the other hand, stays clear over the years, but it does not insulate the tank and can break easily.  In terms of cost effectiveness, glass made saltwater aquarium are far more cheaper than acrylic.  After you have chosen the material, your next decision is to where are you going to place your aquarium.  You have to make sure that your aquarium are located in a place where there is no direct sunlight over it.  Exposure to sunlight over time will make your aquarium a haven for algae which is not healthy for your fish and other marine creatures.  Saltwater aquarium should have a constant level of temperature and any changes can have a negative effect to the ecosystem of your aquarium.

Aquarium stands come with a cabinet or cupboard underneath where you can store the equipment needed for your saltwater aquarium.  These equipment may include the following:  fish food, fish net, hydrometer, thermometer, scrubber, vacuum, sea salt mix, rubber gloves, buckets, filters, saltwater test kit, substrate and others.

These equipment including the tank itself should be cleaned first before you assemble it.  Clean the tank thoroughly to remove any contaminants that may affect the quality of water.  Do not use solvents, detergents or any cleaners because they may leave residues that can be harmful not only to your fish but for the other marine creatures as well.

When you choose an aquarium filter, there are three types that you can choose from: biological, mechanical and chemical types of filtration.  Biological filtration removes nitrate, ammonia, ammonium created by the fish biological activities.  Mechanical filtration removes the food and fish wastes such as excess or uneaten food.  Chemical filtration on the other hand removes harmful chemicals that are dissolved in the water.  The visual effect of chemical filtration is the removal of discoloration of the water itself.
