A large tank for beginners is best because the larger the tank the more chemically the water will be. This suggestion came from the expert hobbyists themselves.
In choosing for the material for your saltwater aquarium tank, you may choose between glass and acrylic kinds of materials. To differentiate the two and for you to decide on which two to choose, glass material stays clearer over the years but are prone to scratches and can break easily. Glass made saltwater aquarium, however, do not insulate the tank. On the other hand, Acrylic made saltwater aquarium, may be prone to scratches but is a good insulator. In terms of cost, glass aquariums are generally cheaper than the acrylic one.
Once you have decided to choose either glass or acrylic made aquarium, the next important thing to identify is the location of your saltwater aquarium. This will make or break the success of your aquarium. You must ensure that the location of your saltwater aquarium will not get too much heat during the day or a location that is directly under the sunlight. Having too much heat in your saltwater aquarium can lead to algae build up due to excessive sunlight and ultraviolet rays. The ideal location should be a balanced sunlight and is not too distracting to your daily activities. It is also important that due to the sheer weight of a saltwater aquarium which can weigh at about 8.5 lbs per gallon, the location should not be moved from one place to another in a long span of time.
Other considerations on the location for your saltwater aquarium is that, the aquarium should fit perfectly with available space for the materials and other accessories. These maintenance equipment is necessary since monitoring of your saltwater aquarium is far more important than the initial set up.
It is equally important that you clean the tank and all accessories before setting up your aquarium. This is to prevent any toxic chemicals than can harm not only your fish but the aquatic plants as well, thus, ruining the entire ecosystem. Avoid using detergents or any solvent that can be a cause of water contamination. Tiny amount of bleach can be used during the cleaning but make sure that you rinse everything thoroughly before installing it.
Once you are done with the process mentioned above, the next step is identifying the kinds of fish that you want to keep as well as the ecosystem that you prefer to put up.
